RESTEC supports JICA – CEOS Radar RS Training in South Africa

On January 24 to 26, 2017, RESTEC supported “JICA – CEOS Radar Remote Sensing Training Workshop” held in Pretoria, South Africa. The workshop was co-organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS), and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA).

10 participants from 9 countries (Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) as well as 9 participants from South Africa joined the workshop. The participants were divided into 2 groups based on their experience on the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), and joined a basic course and an advanced course respectively. The advanced course focused on sinkhole issue which has been one of the serious problems in South Africa while participants of the basic course learned about basic knowledge and techniques to handle SAR data.

It was the 6th time RESTEC dispatched lecturers to South Africa following the 5 courses
