On May 25-27, 2016, a remote sensing training course on ocean monitoring was held in Durban, South Africa. The training course was hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in collaboration with the South African National Space Agency (SANSA). Upon the request of JICA, RESTEC dispatched an expert together with two experts from IHI Corporation.
It was the 4th time RESTEC dispatched lecturers to South Africa following the 3 courses (forests, disasters, and interferometry) in 2015, which were held in Pretoria. This time, the training course was held in Durban for the first time.
Nineteen trainees from ministries and agencies in South Africa, including the South Africa Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA), joined and completed the 3 day training. Some of them will visit Japan in June 2016 for further training.
